How to Detach From Outcomes

For many years, I was focused on making sure everything turned out the way I wanted. I always had a plan and didn’t feel secure unless things went exactly as I expected.

How Are You Attached to Outcomes?
Take a moment to honestly reflect: how are you obsessing over certain outcomes?
- Are you attached to something happening within your preferred timeframe?
- Are you expecting someone to act a specific way?
- Do you fear everything will fall apart if it doesn’t go exactly as planned?
The Power of Letting Go
When you embrace your inner power and trust in the universe, you stop trying to control everything and start opening up to receive. The more we release our desires and goals to the universe, the more we welcome abundance. You can let go of worry and trust that what’s meant for you will come in its own time.
Being overly attached to outcomes actually hinders your ability to manifest your desires and co-create with the universe.
How to Detach from Outcomes
To create the life you want, you need to embody a sense of detachment, which allows you to welcome and receive.
These two simple steps will help you release your grip on outcomes. Once you practice them, you’ll experience greater ease and confidence in manifesting your desires.
Step 1: Acknowledge Your Attachments
Before you can let go of an outcome, you need to be honest with yourself about how attached you are to it. You could even share this with others for accountability. Consider how this attachment is impacting your energy. How does it make you feel? You’ll begin to notice how it may be blocking your ability to manifest what you truly want.
Step 2: Release Through Prayer
The next step is to fully let go, and you can do this through a simple prayer. You can repeat this prayer daily for 30 days if you want to detach from an outcome:
"The moment I find peace within and let go of the outcome is the moment the universe can begin to work its magic."
This prayer will help you shift your energy immediately, aligning you with your higher self. In this state of allowing and letting go, you’ll tune into a frequency that is open, detached, and trusting in the universe to handle the details.
Trust the Process and Let Go
The universe responds when we release control and open up to divine guidance. When you approach life with a controlling mindset, you block the outcomes you truly desire.
However, when you align your energy with the universe, you open up to receiving ideas, inspiration, and opportunities you hadn’t imagined.
How Often Should You Surrender?
People often ask how frequently they should release their desires and trust the universe. My answer: every day. Use your prayer as often as you need. Anytime you feel the urge to control a situation or get overly focused on a particular outcome, turn to this practice.
Start small by practicing detachment in areas of your life where the stakes feel lower. Over time, it will become easier to release your attachment to more significant outcomes.
Focus on Feeling Good
As Abraham-Hicks teaches:
"The reason you desire anything is because you believe you’ll feel good when you achieve it. But if you don’t feel good on the way to that goal, you won’t reach it. You need to find satisfaction in where you are while striving for more."
Learning to feel content with where you are allows you to feel peace and happiness, regardless of whether things unfold exactly as you expected. Let go of the need for specific circumstances and start focusing on feeling good.
When you shift your focus to feeling good, you’ll experience more joy than you ever thought possible. You’ll stop needing things to be a certain way to find happiness, and happiness will become the outcome you truly seek.
